8/8/2018-Sevilla-driving to Toledo, Paradores Toledo, Hospital de Tres Culturas

Check out was fine even though it's so early.  No time for breakfast.  Richard still isn't feeling well and I'm worried about this long drive to Toledo.  He brings the car up from the hotel garage and we're on the road around 6:00 AM.  It's very dark and Richard is a bit worried about getting out of town in the dark.  We manage to get on the E-5/A-4 with just a tiny mistake.  We quickly realized our error, turned around, and only lost a few minutes time.  Able to see the sun rise.  Very pretty.  Past some weird statues visible from the highway.  Road in good shape and not too much traffic.  A bit of road construction.  We pull over to a rest stop where there's a store with a restroom.  We both needed that.  I also bought some snacks and drinks since we didn't have breakfast.  I see one old time windmill which I was hoping to see as we are driving close to the La Mancha area.  We take exit 121 AB to merge on to CM-42 towards Toledo.  Olive trees.  A fortress or castle on top of a hill.  Modern wind mills.  Unfortunately we end up at the hotel when I wanted us to end up at the Hertz office so we could return the rental car!  We check in quick.  Leave our luggage in our room.  Get directions to Hertz office.  Stop at Shell gas station to fill tank.  Cost €16.58.  I get a receipt.  We have a hard time finding the Hertz office which is in the commercial/industrial part of town.  Bonilla Motor Industrial Park.  Because of this we are 2 minutes late returning the car.  The girl checks the car, takes the gas receipt, has me sign that the car is being returned, and she calls a taxi to take us back to the hotel.  I wanted to ask her about some things but the taxi arrives so I don't get the chance.  I think the amount on this slip is more than the amount on the slip I got in Cordoba but I need to compare it to make sure.

Paradores Toledo.  I booked this hotel through booking.com back on 3/16/18 for 2 nights, 8/8-8/10/18.  Then I decided I wanted to stay another night so on 6/27/18 I booked 1 night, 8/10-8/11/18 through booking.com.  Paradores Toledo sent me an e-mail stating we'd have the same room for all 3 nights.  Cost unclear at this time.  Check in was great.  I had requested a room with a city view.  Our room was #407.  We have a superb view of the city!  It's much better than I imagined.  This room is very spacious.   We have 2 good sized beds, 2 chairs and a table, desk, flat screen TV on mobile stand, saw, mini fridge.  Bathroom has toiletries, hair dryer, bathtub, separate shower.  Very nice.  There's doors that open to a large balcony that runs the entire length of this side of the building.  Outside each room is a table and 2 chairs.   Panoramic views.  We unpack.  Then I go down to reception and explain about my husband being sick and the possibility of seeing a doctor.  It's recommended we go to the Hospital de los Tres Culturas.  Since Richard is feeling so awful he agrees we should go.

The hotel calls a taxi which takes us to this hospital.  We enter through a door marked URGENCIAS.  I try my best to explain to the girl at the front desk what's going on and why we are here.  I give her our medical coverage card and the travel insurance coverage information.  She states we need to pay €500 just to get seen!  Wow and I thought our emergency rooms were pricey.  Of course the problem is that even though we have great health insurance coverage it's not accepted here.  I will get receipts, reports, etc. to submit.  Thank goodness I bought travel insurance which covers emergency medical with only a $50 deductible.  The limit on our policy for medical was $4000.00.  Richard is seen by Dr. Norbel Fonsec a Ramirez whose English was pretty decent.  Richard told him about his constant diarrhea and the severe stomach pain, when it started, how he's not getting better.  That because of this he's not eating or drinking because that makes matters worse.  Abdominal X-rays are ordered along with a full blood work up.  When the results are in we see the doctor again.  He explains that the X-rays are normal but the blood work up shows a creatinine level is 5 times higher than what it should be and he asks if my husband has ever had any renal/kidney issues.  Um-no.  Puts him on a saline drip. Then does the blood tests again but level is even higher.  He suggests we go home so Richard can see a specialist.  He thinks what he's seeing is possible kidney failure.  He gives us a script for medicine for the diarrhea.  The hospital calls for a taxi which takes us to a 24 hour pharmacy to get the medicine and then take us back to the hotel.  By now it's around 1:00 AM on 8/9/18.  We have been at the hospital over 7 hours!  We're exhausted.  In the morning I'll have to try to touch base with a rep from the travel insurance and find a flight home as soon as possible.
